Shopify handles the commerce. Bauhem designs the experience: a headless storefront that is faster, more flexible, and better aligned with the brand, content, and acquisition.
Service details

We help brands use Shopify as their e-commerce engine while creating a bespoke interface connected to a CMS, content, marketing data, and the actual needs of the customer journey.

Duration:

4 to 10 weeks for an initial headless store or storefront, depending on the catalog, design, content, integrations, and CMS requirements. More advanced architectures may require more extensive scoping.

Service type:

Shopify Headless, Storefront API, custom front-end, composable CMS, Ycode, Nuxt/Next, SEO/AEO, performance, analytics, and e-commerce integrations.

Best for:

E-commerce brands, manufacturers, retailers, and SMEs looking to go beyond the limitations of a standard Shopify theme to enhance the experience, content, performance, and brand perception.

Details

Shopify is excellent for managing products, orders, payments, inventory, and e-commerce operations. But a brand’s public-facing experience can sometimes go beyond what a standard Shopify theme can handle cleanly.

Shopify Headless design separates the commerce engine from the front-end interface. Shopify continues to manage what it does best, while Bauhem designs a storefront that is more flexible, faster, more structured, and more aligned with the brand.

Shopify for commerce. An interface designed for the brand.

In a headless architecture, Shopify remains the source of truth for the catalogue, variants, pricing, cart, checkout, and orders. The front end can be built with a more flexible approach: custom design, composable CMS, editorial content, dynamic pages, performance, and marketing integrations.

The goal is not to add unnecessary complexity. The goal is to give brands more control when they need a better shopping experience, stronger storytelling, or a more scalable structure.

When headless becomes relevant

A headless approach is not necessary for every store. It becomes valuable when a brand needs to go beyond a standard theme.

  • The brand experience is central and needs to go beyond a classic product grid.
  • Editorial content, guides, collection pages, or campaigns need to be richer.
  • Performance, SEO structure, or the mobile experience need to be improved.
  • The store needs to connect Shopify to a CMS, an existing website, marketing tools, or external data.
  • The purchase journey requires more customized pages, filters, variants, content, or logic.

What Bauhem designs

Bauhem works at the intersection of e-commerce strategy, design, content, CMS, front-end development, and discoverability. We do not treat Shopify Headless as a purely technical project. We design it as a complete commercial experience.

  • E-commerce architecture: the role of Shopify, the CMS, the front end, content, and integrations.
  • UX/UI direction, design system, components, and purchase journeys.
  • Headless front end connected to Shopify, using the stack best suited to the project.
  • Content structure: collections, guides, dynamic pages, FAQs, proof points, and product storytelling.
  • SEO, AEO, structured data, analytics, pixels, events, and performance.
  • Support to keep the store easy to manage, clear, and scalable.

Possible architecture

Depending on the mandate, Shopify can be connected to an interface built with Ycode, Nuxt, Next, a composable CMS, or a more custom stack. The choice depends on the desired level of control, the catalogue, the content, performance requirements, budget, and the team that will manage the system.

In most cases, we keep Shopify Checkout to preserve payment reliability, security, and critical e-commerce functionality. The freedom mainly sits in everything that comes before the purchase: pages, content, navigation, collections, search, design, storytelling, tracking, and conversion.

Our method

  1. Define the need: business objectives, limitations of the current theme, catalogue, content, and customer journey.
  2. Define the architecture: Shopify, CMS, front end, data, tracking, and each tool’s responsibilities.
  3. Design the experience: page structure, design system, components, content, and calls to action.
  4. Build, connect, and optimize: Shopify integration, performance, SEO, analytics, and pre-launch testing.

Possible deliverables

  • Audit of an existing Shopify store with headless or hybrid recommendations.
  • Prototype or e-commerce landing page connected to Shopify.
  • Design and development of a Shopify Headless storefront.
  • Connection of Shopify to a CMS, a Ycode architecture, or an existing front end.
  • SEO/AEO optimization, tracking, performance, content, and conversion structure.

Final objective

Create a clearer, faster, and more memorable e-commerce experience while keeping Shopify as a reliable foundation for commerce. A store that sells, but also explains the brand, the products, and the company’s real value more effectively.
